I had to create a mini radio feature for one of my uni modules on a subject of my choice and I choice to do mine on something very important to me, mental health. I feel that mental health is very easily over looked and not a lot of people understand what it actually is, it effects a lot of people and is a serious issue. It can develop from a very young age and isn’t easy to stop. I wanted to give people an insight into how someone with anxiety feels and hopefully help people try to understand what it actually is. I think radio is a great way to talk about difficult subjects like this because you really listen to what is being said, especially with emotional pieces, where as with TV your more focused on the image your watching rather than the story. I know when I was editing this piece together it really touched me, not just because I know the person speaking but because you can hear the struggle shes been through and at such a young age. Anyway, here is my friend telling her story about anxiety, Please feel free to comment and share, I hope you like it 🙂

I have also created a minute long soundscape on the sounds of the seaside. Since I live close to the beach the seaside is a big part of my life which is why I thought it would be a great idea to do that for my soundscape. However its quite difficult recording sounds on the beach because its pretty much impossible to not have noise interference from the wind so I had to time when I was going to record perfectly. Since I have amusements on my sea front and I personally cant go to the beach without going to the amusements at least once I decided to include this in my soundscape to create a bit of a story. It also made it really fun to edit becauseI could layer all the different sounds on top of each other to try and create an atmosphere as if you were really there. Please comment and share, I hope you like it 🙂

One of the first tasks I did in my radio class was make a music inheritance track. I asked Lauren about a song that meant a lot to her and one she would pass on to her children. Both songs are very different which very different meanings to her but both great stories and because of that I loved editing it together. It was a long enough piece that it gave me plenty of time to get used to the software and how a good track should sound but I still had to cut a lot out due to time restrictions which was really difficult because shes such a good story teller. To make the story more interesting to the listener I added a loop track underneath her speaking as well as some specific lyrics that relate to her story. Please comment and share, I hope you like it 🙂
