A Dance of Water and Air Elemental Magicae #1Feelings even from themselvesWhen someone tries to assassinate the ueen Edmund is blamed and Arden rescues him before he can be executed for a crime he didn’t commit To prevent a war between their kingdoms and protect them from a dangerous enemy Edmund and Arden will have to discover who wants to pit Aither and Thalassa against each other and mend relations between the two kingdoms as they evade those searching for them all while finding a way to be together 3 starsThings I appreciatedenjoyed 1 LGBT representation demipansexual characters are always a plus Throw in a trans man and you've got my attention2 One of the main characters is not white still hard to come by in ueer fiction even these days3 The magical system elemental magic is always cool in my book loved the mention of an undine4 I have to circle back to number 1 I LOVED the potential this book had Things I did not enjoy1 The lack of literary devices that would have made the story fuller and vibrant2 The pace of their relationshipattraction felt off the kiss in the dungeon was weird no build up at all no explanation for the attraction not really3 The dialogue did not seem like actual conversation4 The telling not enough showing 5 The lack of tropes I mean I know not all stories are going to have them but I feel like romance as a genre reuires at least some At least one All in all I gave this book a 35 stars rating because I think there's a good basis here but the pacing is off there's little description and I didn't feel anything towards the characters good or bad just meeeeeeeeeh There's a glimpse of something every now and then and if the author could master those glimpses turning them into sweeping surveys instead we'd have something to work withNot one of my favorites not one of the worst but definitely nothing I'll revisit any time soon If you are looking for a straight forward no frills predictable romance this is for you
