Read This Side of the Grave Night Huntress #5 eBook ä Mass Market Paperback ↠ Danger waits on both sides of the graveHalf vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives as well as for their relationship But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle Cat's new andUpset a long standing balance With the mysterious disappearance of vampires rumors abound that a species war is brewing A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls and if these two powerful groups clash innocent mortals could become collatera DoNotShootI can explI’m not saying that Cat isn’t the epitome of awesomenessI’m not saying that Bones isn’t one of the sexiest things out thereI’m not saying that the side characters aren’t intriguing and fun to hang around withBut look at the plot peopleBad guy is after Cat for some ridiculous reason Cat goes after the bad guyTones of random stuff happeningCat fights the bad guy Cat kills the bad guy The endSounds familiar right You’ve read something like that before and still enjoyed it right Then what went wrong with this oneThere are so many subplots all over the place one random event happening right after the other that it really felt like a messy attempt to get into this book as many previously introduced characters as possible instead of actually building a story It was like a parade; one character showing up after the other to take care of some minor detail What was the purpose of Timmy’s presence in this book exactly Even if it’s got something to do with the next book it could surely wait till then where his appearance would have something to do with the plot The relationship between Cat and Bones is different this time around and even though I was happy that Cat didn’t follow the pattern of doing things her own way with disastrous results I dare say that it was boring It didn’t even have the spark and humor that defined the previous books Sweet talking and loving gazes are nice and all but to me at least they felt a little over the top for an UF book Boring Dude did you ever read Chapter 21Yes I did Hot stuff but the reason that I enjoyed the relationship between these two in the previous books wasn’t just the sex; it was their banters Cat’s sarcasm Bones' dry humorWhere did all that go “Ask me if I sparkle and I’ll kill you where you stand” – BonesOk ok that one was goodOk it was VERY good but for the most part of the story I actually had to force myself to sit down and read it and that was surprising considering that I had read every previous installment in one sittingI can understand how most fans of the series might find this to be extremely interesting and fun; these books are loved because of their characters rather than their plot or world buildingTo me however this felt like some kind of Extras feature on a DVD's Special EditionOh look it’s Cat’s neighbor from the first book Awww it’s the ghost that Cat met in that other book Look Look It’s Mencheres and Kira see how happy they are togetherSpade and Denise What a coupleAh the guys from Cat’s secret government job remember themYes yes very exciting Can we now get on with the ploVLAD I LOVE YOUt
